Mediacom Raising Internet Download Speeds for Majority of Customers

Mediacom Communications announced today it is giving a substantial download speed boost to many of the company’s most popular Xtream internet tiers.  Effective immediately, the following upgrades will be made available to over 900,000 customers nationally at no additional charge:

  • Download speeds for Access Internet 60 will rise to 100 Mbps, a 67% increase.
  • Download speeds for Internet 100 will jump to 200 Mbps, a 100% increase.
  • Download speeds for Internet 300 will move to 400 Mbps, a 33% increase.

In addition, Mediacom will be doubling the download speeds for the Connect2Compete Plus (C2C+) tier from 50 Mbps to 100 Mbps.  C2C+ offers qualifying customers a complete high-speed broadband experience for just $30 per month.  The service is designed to work in conjunction with the FCC’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) which provides a corresponding $30 monthly benefit ($75 in Tribal Areas) to help eligible households pay for broadband access.  The ACP benefit is available to households with income at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines or if a member of the household participates in SNAP, Medicaid, Federal Public Housing Assistance, SSI, WIC, Lifeline or certain other federal programs.

“Similar to our 2021 launch of Xtream WiFi 360pro which is now being used in more than 50,000 homes and businesses served by Mediacom, these speed enhancements are being implemented to facilitate the seamless connection of more internet-enabled devices and enrich the consumer experience,” said John Pascarelli, Mediacom’s Executive Vice President of Operations.

Customers may have to reboot their modem for the speed changes to take effect.  In addition, older modems may need to be upgraded to take full advantage of the increased speeds. Older modems leased from Mediacom are eligible to be exchanged at no additional charge.  For customers who own their modems, information about equipment compatibility can be found online.

Mediacom Announces New High-Speed Internet Programs to Connect Low-Income Households

Mediacom Communications today announced its participation in the federal government’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), a new program designed to help more Americans lower the monthly cost of home internet service.

The ACP is administered by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Qualifying households can receive a credit of up to $30 off their monthly internet service bill Eligibility is defined by the FCC and targets households with income less than 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines or that participate in government programs such as SNAP, Medicaid, WIC, and Lifeline.

To maximize the ACP benefit, Mediacom has launched a new internet service called Connect2Compete-Plus (C2C+) with a $30 per month price including modem and unlimited data for qualifying households. The new C2C+ tier delivers internet download speeds of up to 50 Mbps and is one of many speed options available to customers who participate in the ACP.

“With more people than ever before working and studying from home due to the COVID pandemic, access to high-speed broadband is a necessity for most families,” said Ed Pardini, Mediacom’s senior vice president of field operations. “By participating in ACP and launching C2C+, we hope to provide more opportunities for low-income households to get and stay connected to the internet.”

Existing EBB customers will continue to receive monthly benefits of up to $50 per month through March 1. Mediacom is working with its EBB customers to transition them into the ACP.

Mediacom Lights up Gigabit Service in Indiana

by: Daniel Frankel

Mediacom continued its quest to become the first U.S. cable operator to convert its HFC-based network entirely to DOCSIS 3.1 by the end of 2017, setting up 1 Gbps services in its 20-county Indiana footprint. Mediacom isn’t the first operator to reach Indiana with DOCSIS 3.1-powered 1-gig services-Comcast announced in late-May that it’s $140-a-month DOCSIS 3.1 product was available in the state. However, the state’s dominant MSO still isn’t advertising its 1-gig product in key areas like Indianapolis.

Mediacom representatives didn’t immediately respond to inquiries on pricing for their 1-gig offering, but the operator has also priced its services at $140 a month in markets in which it has previously deployed DOCSIS 3.1

“Mediacom has invested over $8 billion of private capital in its national network to ensure that the hardworking people living in America’s smaller cities and towns can access world-class communications services,” said Todd Curtis, group VP of Mediacom’s Lincoln Region, in a statement. “We want the people and businesses of Indiana to succeed, and that is why we are thrilled to be able to offer ultrafast gigabit internet services across the entirety of our Hoosier State service territory.”

“In today’s global economy, access to high-quality, high-speed broadband is critical to driving local economic growth,” added Indiana Rep. Dave Ober, chair of the House Committee on Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications, also speaking in Mediacom’s press release. “Thanks to Mediacom’s efforts to make gigabit broadband available in the smaller rural markets it serves, communities across northern Indiana will have access to the same or better broadband speeds as America’s largest cities.”
